Background:Goodwin broke his foot in the third game of the season as a junior at Blue Valley High School. Last season, as a senior, he lead the team in batting with a .435 average and a .545 on-base percentage (.980 OPS). Joey had 27 hits, seven doubles and 19 runs batted in during the 2009 season. Goodwin was a second team all-state selection in Class 6A and first-team All-East Kansas League pick, Goodwin threw out an impressive 8 of the 17 base runners who attempted to steal on him.
