Background:The former Washburn Rural standout will play for Cloudy County this spring. Matthews stole 10 bases during the 2008 season for Washburn Rural, 2 shy of tying the school record. He was named to the 2008 All-Centennial League team and the 2008 All-city team as a senior. Last season with Cloud County he was selected All-Conference 2nd Team and ranks 10th all time in hits in one season with 64. Blaine will head back home to help bolster the Golden Giants infield this summer.
